Efforts Underway for Early Release of Around 20 Indians Trapped in Russia: MEA

New Delhi, Feb 29 (IANS) – According to the Ministry of External Affairs, at least 20 Indians working as support staff with the Russian Army are currently stuck in the country. Efforts are underway to secure their early release as New Delhi reiterates its commitment to their welfare.

The Foreign Affairs spokesperson, Randhir Jaiswal, revealed that the individuals had been lured to Russia under false pretenses of security guard jobs. The ministry is in contact with Russian authorities to ensure their prompt discharge and has advised all Indian nationals in Russia to exercise caution amidst the conflict.

“We are deeply-committed to the welfare of all Indians,” Jaiswal emphasized during a media briefing. The ministry’s recent statement reassured that efforts are being made to expedite the release of Indian citizens from the Russian Army, debunking inaccurate reports circulating in the media.

Regarding the Russia-Ukraine conflict, Jaiswal reiterated India’s stance on the matter, emphasizing the need for dialogue and diplomatic solutions. India advocates for peaceful discussions to resolve the conflict and has consistently called for engagement from both sides.

The Ministry of External Affairs continues to monitor the situation closely and remains dedicated to ensuring the safety and well-being of all Indian nationals, especially those affected by the ongoing crisis in Russia.
