Different names know the day as Bakra Eid, Feast of Sacrifice, Bakrid, Qurban Bayarami, Bakhreid, Eid Qurban, or Eid al-Adha. The day is celebrated on the 10th day of Dhul Hijjah and is considered the most benevolent or blessed day of the year for the faithful.

Haj is one of the most important pilgrimages every Muslim must make once in his lifetime. However, Qurbani or sacrifice is something that every Muslim does regardless of whether he has completed the Hajj pilgrimage or not. The sacrificial ritual is done following the Eid prayers and is performed in the congregation in the morning.

The Islamic Month of Dhul Hijjah starts with the sighting of the crescent or the new moon and marks the pilgrimage to the holy city of Mecca in Saudi Arabia. On the tenth day marks Eid ul Adha. The whole month is considered very sacred and is marked by heightened devotion, reflection, and acts of worship. Eid-ul-Adha will be celebrated in India on Monday, June 17, 2024.

The day starts with a bath followed by breakfast which is usually Dates because Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) ate dates before going out to pray. The faithful wear new clothes and visit the Mosque for Eid prayers. It is also an occasion for family reunion and the elders offer gifts to the younger folks.
