Election Results: Turncoats Gain Wealth in UP
Lucknow, March 25 (IANS) Turncoats are making headlines in Uttar Pradesh as political parties field candidates who have switched allegiances in the upcoming elections. The trend of favoring turncoats over dedicated party workers has raised concerns among political analysts about weakening party cadres.
The first Congress list for Uttar Pradesh includes names like Imran Masood from Saharanpur and Sadal Prasad from Bansgaon, who have switched from SP and BSP respectively. Danish Ali, now fielded from Amroha, recently joined the Congress after leaving the BSP.
In the SP list, Afzal Ansari, who was elected to Lok Sabha in 2019 on a BSP ticket, will be contesting from Ghazipur. Similarly, BJP’s list includes turncoats like Jitin Prasada, contesting from Pilibhit, and Jagdambika Pal from Domariyaganj, who left the Congress for BJP.
A senior political analyst R K Singh expressed concern, stating, “The tendency to give preference to turncoats over dedicated party workers is weakening the cadres of parties. Those who work for the parties are conveniently sidelined in favour of turncoats for whom changing parties is a political business.”
