Elon Musk says Gmail’s alternative Xmail is coming soon

Tech mogul Elon Musk recently hinted at the possibility of X (formerly Twitter) launching an alternative to Gmail, taking a dig at Google. During a conversation on X, Musk revealed that an email service from X is in the works, sparking excitement among tech enthusiasts.

Nate McGrady from X’s Engineering and Security team inquired about the launch of XMail, to which Musk cryptically responded with a simple “Coming.” This statement stirred up speculations in the tech industry, especially as a manipulated image hinting at Gmail’s potential shutdown in 2024 circulated on social media.

In response to Musk’s tease, one follower expressed their disinterest in Gmail, stating, “Lost trust in Gmail. Time to make the switch to Xmail asap!” Meanwhile, another user mentioned using Gmail only for junk, suggesting a shift towards the upcoming Xmail service.

Despite the initial frenzy caused by the fake image suggesting Gmail’s discontinuation, Google clarified that the popular email service is not going anywhere. Google reassured users that Gmail will remain operational, dispelling any rumors of its potential termination. However, the company did announce the shutdown of the basic HTML view in favor of the “Standard” view for users.

As Musk’s X platform prepares to introduce XMail as an alternative to Gmail, the tech industry eagerly anticipates the launch of this new email service. The rivalry between tech giants like Google and X continues to evolve, with users awaiting more information about what Musk has in store for his platform.
