England bowls out India for 477 with Bashir taking five wickets and Anderson claiming his 700th scalp

Dharamshala, March 9 (IANS) Off-spinner Shoaib Bashir impressed with his second five-wicket haul in Tests, while veteran pacer James Anderson made history by becoming the first fast-bowler to pick 700 wickets in the format. England bowled out India for 477 in their first innings on day three of the fifth Test at the HPCA Stadium.

With a lead of 259 runs over England, India’s notable performances came from Shubman Gill and Rohit Sharma, who scored 100 and 103 respectively. Debutant Devdutt Padikkal also shined with a fine 65, along with Sarfaraz Khan’s contribution of 56.

In a crucial moment, James Anderson reached a milestone by taking his 700th Test wicket by dismissing Kuldeep Yadav, who was lured into an edge. Shoaib Bashir sealed the fate for India by claiming his five-wicket haul quickly, being the third England bowler to achieve this feat before turning 21.

As India looks to wrap up the final test quickly, captain Rohit Sharma’s absence on day three due to a stiff back adds to the challenge. England will aim to put up a strong fight after being bowled out for 218, trailing India by 259 runs. It will be interesting to see how the match unfolds in the following days.
