Enjoyed hitting Anderson for three sixes: Yashasvi Jaiswal

YASHASVI JAISWAL ENJOYED HITTING JAMES ANDERSON FOR SIXES IN 214-RUN KNOCK

Rajkot, Feb 19 (IANS) – Yashasvi Jaiswal, the left-handed opener who scored an unbeaten 214 runs in India’s 434-run win over England in the third Test, expressed his joy at hitting veteran fast-bowler James Anderson for three sixes during his impressive innings. Jaiswal, who retired hurt on 104 due to back cramps on day three’s play, made a remarkable comeback to finish with 214 runs off 236 balls in India’s second innings.

During his innings, Jaiswal hit 14 fours and 12 sixes, equaling the world record for most sixes in a Test innings along with Wasim Akram. He also became the third youngest Test batter in the world to record two double centuries, after Sir Donald Bradman and Vinod Kambli, and the third Indian batter to score back-to-back double hundreds in Tests after Kambli and Virat Kohli.

Reflecting on his performance, Jaiswal said, “I was in a really good zone. I felt if he (Anderson) was going to bowl there, I would need to play my shots. I was just trying my best and I really enjoyed that.” He also credited his partnership with Sarfaraz Khan, stating, “We have been playing together since the past three or four years. We know how to play along with each other and that’s why we run really well between the wickets.”

With three hundreds in seven Tests and an average of 71.75, Jaiswal has shown consistency in his performances. He emphasized the importance of hard work, stating, “In India, when you grow up, you work really hard for each and everything… I know how important every innings is and that’s why I work hard in my (practice) sessions and every innings counts for me and my team.”

Jaiswal also credited head coach Rahul Dravid and batting coach Vikram Rathour for their guidance, saying, “They have been incredible. They have given me the freedom to bat… Sometimes I do well and sometimes I don’t, and during those times in particular, the way they talk about cricket and other things is really good to see.”

Overall, Yashasvi Jaiswal’s outstanding performance in the third Test has solidified his position as a promising young talent in the world of cricket.
