Electric vehicles (EVs) have been identified as a crucial tool in helping India achieve its net zero target, as experts emphasize the importance of innovation and collaboration between industry and academia in the sector. Speaking at the National Science Day celebrations, experts highlighted the need for synergy to drive sustainable solutions in the EV industry.

Dr. VK Saraswat, Member Niti Aayog, mentioned the role of EV charging stations and the importance of public-private partnerships in the success of EV mobility. He emphasized the need for innovations, technologies, and policy decisions to support the growth of electric vehicles in the country.

Dr. Anita Gupta, Head of Climate, Energy and Sustainable Technology (CEST) Division, DST, emphasized the importance of collective efforts from academia, startups, and stakeholders in driving the transition effectively. She highlighted the significant contribution of EVs to economic growth and environmental sustainability.

Industry players have welcomed the government’s decision to increase the scheme outlay of the Faster Adoption and Manufacturing of Electric Vehicles (FAME) India Phase II. The Ministry of Heavy Industries announced the enhancement of the scheme outlay from Rs 10,000 crore to Rs 11,500 crore to further promote clean mobility in the country and support the widespread adoption of electric vehicles.

Overall, the focus on EVs as a key solution for achieving India’s net zero target is gaining momentum, with experts emphasizing the need for collaboration, innovation, and policy support to drive sustainable solutions in the electric vehicle sector.
