Experts at ASSOCHAM ‘Illness To Wellness’ Summit Identify Air Pollution as Primary Cause of Lung Diseases

New Delhi, March 19 (IANS) The ‘Illness to Wellness’ Summit, organized by the ASSOCHAM Foundation for CSR, shed light on the alarming impact of air pollution on lung diseases and overall health. Eminent medical practitioners discussed the pressing issue at the event, highlighting the urgent need to address air pollution for public health.

During a session titled ‘Depleting Air Quality Index: A Potent Threat to Health and Environment,’ moderated by Dr. Karan Thakur, Vice President of Apollo Hospitals Enterprises Limited, experts emphasized the detrimental effects of air pollution on respiratory health. Dr. G.C. Khilnani noted, “Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD) has become a leading cause of death, with a significant rise in patients due to air pollution.”

Dr. Vivek Nangia further highlighted the correlation between air pollution and existing health conditions, such as diabetes and sleep apnea. The experts called for immediate action to address air pollution to prevent further deterioration of public health.

The ‘Illness to Wellness’ Summit featured over 60 specialists and wellness professionals discussing critical health issues across nine sessions.
