Experts Globally Commend India’s Bold Strategy for Advancing Green Hydrogen

India’s National Green Hydrogen Mission has received a significant endorsement from the Vice Chair of the International Partnership for Hydrogen and Fuel Cells in the Economy (IPHE). Dr Noe Van Hulst praised India’s ambitious targets and its efforts to achieve them through policies and regulatory frameworks, stating that it could propel the country to the forefront of global hydrogen development.

The IPHE meeting, hosted by India in New Delhi from March 18-22, 2024, saw participation from advanced countries like France, the European Commission, Japan, Germany, Netherlands, the UAE, the UK, the US, Singapore, South Korea, Austria, and Chile. The Stakeholders’ Consultation Day highlighted the importance of collaboration and innovation to advance clean and green hydrogen technologies.

Special Secretary of the Ministry of External Affairs, P. Kumaran, emphasized the emergence of Green Hydrogen as a global solution for the transition to clean energy. He mentioned India’s abundant renewable resources and conducive ecosystem, stating that Green Hydrogen has the potential to transform the nation’s energy supply chain over the next two decades, with significant economic benefits.

The Ministry of New & Renewable Energy’s Joint Secretary, Ajay Yadav, discussed the various Green Hydrogen projects in India, mentioning the gradual development of a Green Hydrogen ecosystem nationwide. Chairperson of CII Taskforce on Green Hydrogen, Vineet Mittal, highlighted the role of IPHE in promoting the Hydrogen economy and called for support from international bodies like WTO and the UN to facilitate the adoption of Green Hydrogen and emphasized the need for policy autonomy to pursue decarbonization in India.
