Explosion in Vietnam paper factory results in one fatality and three injuries

A tragic incident in Vietnam’s Bac Ninh province has left one paper factory worker dead and two others injured in a massive explosion on Tuesday morning at the Hung Loi Paper Joint Stock Company in Phu Lam industrial cluster. The explosion, which occurred at around 10:30 a.m. while the workers were repairing machines, resulted in the death of a 31-year-old worker on the scene, with two others rushed to the hospital in an emergency.

The primary cause of the explosion was identified as a gas pit explosion, according to reports from the Vietnam News Agency. The Hung Loi company had previously faced administrative sanctions for not having an environmental permit and was required to suspend the operation of the waste generation source for 4.5 months since January this year.

Vietnam has been experiencing a high number of fires and explosions, with 1,179 incidents recorded in the first three months of 2023. These incidents have resulted in 24 fatalities, 18 injuries, and property losses of about 71.1 billion Vietnamese dong (2.8 million U.S. dollars), as reported by the General Statistics Office.Authorities are likely investigating the safety protocols and regulations at industrial sites to prevent further such tragedies.
