Fake video of UP CM goes viral, FIR filed

Lucknow, March 11 (IANS) – A fake video of Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath promoting a medicine for diabetes using artificial technology recently surfaced on social media. The cyber police in Hazratganj registered an FIR against the Facebook profile ‘Grace Garsia’ under various sections of the IPC and IT Act.

The 41-second video, created by editing a news channel clip, was shared on Facebook by ‘Grace Garsia’ on February 26. The video claimed that diabetes had been conquered in India and urged viewers to say goodbye to the condition. It garnered 225K views and 120 shares on the platform.

Inspector Mohammed Muslim Khan from the cybercrime division at DGP office filed the complaint after discovering the fake video on the social media platform. The video manipulated the Chief Minister’s audio and voice to endorse a diabetes medicine available for purchase on a website.

The FIR stated that in the video, Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath was falsely portrayed as claiming that the medicine had been developed by Indian scientists and promised blessings from God to those who buy it. The cyber police are now investigating the matter further to identify those responsible for creating and sharing the misleading content.
