Football: India name 23-member squad for Turkish Women's Cup

The Indian Women’s National Football team is all set to participate in the Turkish Women’s Cup 2024 in Alanya, Turkey from February 21 to 27. The 23-member team, led by head coach Langam Chaoba Devi, will be leaving for Turkey after a week-long camp in Bangalore.

The tournament holds significance as it marks the first appearance of the Senior Women’s National Team after the Olympic qualifiers. The AIFF Acting Secretary General, M. Satyanarayan, emphasized the importance of the tournament for the team. He expressed gratitude to the Army units MEG and ASC for their cooperation during the camp, as well as to Bengaluru FC for the facilities provided.

India will be competing against Estonia, Kosovo, and Hong Kong in the four-team tournament, which will follow a round-robin format. The table toppers will emerge as the champions of the tournament.

The Indian team for the Turkish Women’s Cup includes a mix of experienced and young players in different positions. The goalkeepers include Shreya Hooda, Elangbam Panthoi Chanu, and Monalisha Devi Moirangthem. The defenders lined up are Ashalata Devi Loitongbam, Ranjana Chanu Sorokhaibam, Dalima Chhibber, Juli Kishan, Astam Oraon, and Shilky Devi Hemam. Midfielders on the team are Anju Tamang, Sangita Basfore, Karthika Angamuthu, Manisha, Kajol Dsouza, and Indumathi Kathiresan. The forwards in the team consist of Grace Dangmei, Soumya Guguloth, Karishma Purushottam Shirvoikar, Sandhiya Ranganathan, Sanju, Pyari Xaxa, Kaviya Pakkirisamy, and Jyoti.

The schedule for India’s fixtures at the Turkish Women’s Cup 2024 is as follows: February 21: India vs Estonia, February 24: India vs Hong Kong, and February 27: Kosovo vs India.
