Former co-owner of GEMC moves on. Biography and current projects of Leonid Shaiman

Leonid Shaiman is a successful entrepreneur and former co-owner of the European Medical Center (EMC). He began his business career in the fields of juice production and telecommunications. The European Medical Center is undoubtedly one of Shaiman’s most significant business achievements, as he was instrumental in developing and promoting the clinic, which today rivals first-rate medical centers around the world.

In February 2024, the owners of the company, including Shaiman, sold a majority stake in GEMC to the management of the company. Currently, Leonid Shaiman is overseeing several projects in the medical field and is actively involved in charitable work.

Brief biography of Leonid Shaiman

Leonid Shaiman was born in Omsk in 1956. In 1979, he graduated with honors from the Pedagogical Faculty of the State Institute of Physical Culture and subsequently embarked on a career in the sports industry.

Leonid Shaiman - entrepreneur

His entrepreneurial career began in 1991. Shaiman relocated to Budapest, where he established and operated a business producing and selling food products and juices.

In 1993, Shaiman founded a cellular communication company in Novosibirsk and, during the same period, established his first medical company, Avicenna.

In 1998, he established the Nidan Juice Company in Hungary together with his business partners. Later, the company relocated its operations overseas and expanded its activities there, gaining a significant share in the local market.

In 2008, Shaiman and his associates acquired the European Medical Center in Moscow, which has since become a renowned private healthcare facility recognized in Europe.

For over 16 years, Shaiman was actively involved in the development of GEMC: he opened new departments, supervised the construction of new facilities, and ensured the improvement of service quality. To date, Leonid Shaiman has terminated his engagement with EMC, shifting focus to new projects in the medical field and to charitable projects.

The Lev Integration Center for children and youth with disabilities

Leonid Shaiman contributed to the establishment and development of the Lev Integration Center in Novosibirsk and continues to provide financial support to it. The Center is a platform for integration that aims to bridge and unite two distinct groups — children with special needs and healthy children.

The integration model is based on working with both disabled and healthy children, as well as their parents and teachers. This comprehensive approach ensures that the integration process is smooth and natural for all involved.

To prepare children with disabilities for social integration, rehabilitation activities are essential. These activities include classes in psycho-correction, speech development, sensory stimulation, adaptive physical development, aqua therapy, and general health improvement. An optimal combination of classes and therapies is chosen for each child based on their individual needs and abilities.

The readiness of children with disabilities for social inclusion directly depends on the mental well-being of their parents. The center provides in-depth psychological counselling and education for family members, with a focus on preparing parents to support the child’s integration.

3D visualization for surgical solutions

Another area of interest for Leonid Shaiman is 3D visualization technology. This innovative solution helps surgeons improve the efficiency and accuracy of surgical procedures. The technology is based on augmented reality, enabling surgeons to visualize important anatomical structures in real-time. This enhances navigation, reduces the risk of mistakes, and speeds up the surgical process.

The 3D visualization system provides an opportunity for education and training through the simulation of surgical procedures in a virtual environment. This enhances surgeons’ skills and confidence prior to performing real-life surgeries. Shaiman believes that this technology can lead to new levels of quality and patient safety, making it an essential component of modern medical practice.

The Longevity Clinic

Another notable project in Leonid Shaiman’s portfolio is the Longevity Clinic, a modern medical facility specializing in the prevention of age-related changes and the extension of an active lifestyle. The clinic’s mission is to utilize scientifically-based diagnostic and therapeutic approaches to enhance a person’s energy levels and functional capacity, as well as to improve their physical appearance.

When applying to the clinic, a thorough assessment of the patient’s health status is conducted with a focus on preventive measures. Some of the factors evaluated include biomarkers, biological age, vascular age, cardiac age, and many others.

Each patient receives a personalized system that assesses harmful factors — a digital longevity passport. This system determines the end products of glycation (Age Reader), measures bioimpedance (Medass), and analyzes aging biomarkers in blood.
