Former Minister Ganeswar Behera resigns from Congress, likely to join BJD soon
Senior Congress leader Ganeswar Behera resigns from the primary membership of the party, aiming to win elections and fight for the interest of Kendrapara. Behera tendered his resignation through a letter to the Odisha Pradesh Congress Committee President, Sarat Patnaik, and disclosed receiving joining offers from other political parties.
Behera expressed his reasons for resigning, stating, “My aim is to go to the state Assembly by winning elections so that I can fight for the interest of Kendrapara. I have resigned from the Congress as I was apprehensive about achieving my aim by remaining in the party.” The senior leader also acknowledged the Congress party for the opportunities he received in the past.
Having held different ministerial portfolios during the Congress government in 1999, Behera represented the Pattamundai Assembly constituency in Kendrapara District twice, in 1985 and 1995. He is now speculated to join the ruling BJD soon. Behera mentioned that he is grateful to the Congress party for his past roles as an MLA and minister.
With the looming possibility of Behera joining the BJD, his departure from the Congress comes at a crucial time in Odisha politics. The senior leader’s decision to resign and explore other political options indicates a shift in alliances and strategies within the state. Behera’s move could have significant implications for both the Congress and the BJD in the upcoming elections.
