Four arrested with 3 crore hawala money in Delhi
New Delhi, March 24 (IANS) Four individuals were apprehended by the Delhi Police with hawala money totaling almost Rupees three crore in the national capital. The accused were intercepted at Jhajera flyover while en route from Gurugram to Chandni Chowk, leading to their arrest.
The individuals, identified as Mohd Shomeen (26), Jishan (27), Danish (22), and Santosh (22), are residents of Shahdara area. The police disclosed that two suspicious vehicles were stopped on NH 48 on Friday at 3:45 p.m.
Deputy Commissioner of Police (southwest) Rohit Meena stated, “Four persons riding on scooties along with two black bags were stopped near Jharera flyover, NH-48. On checking the Scooty, the two bags were found sealed with a plastic seal.” The accused revealed that the bags contained Rupees three crore in Hawala cash, linked to Mohd Vakil Malik, a scrap dealer in Shahdara.
The individuals failed to provide valid documents for the cash. They were then escorted to Subroto Park police station along with the bags and vehicles. The information was promptly shared with senior officers, the Election Flying Squad Team of Delhi Cantt, and Income Tax Authorities in line with Election Commission guidelines.
The DCP mentioned, “Further investigation is being conducted by the Income Tax Department.” The alleged individuals and their phones were handed over to the authorities.
