Four fishermen tragically lost their lives in Tripura’s Dumboor Lake

Four fishermen tragically lost their lives when their makeshift platform collapsed in Dumboor Lake, Tripura due to a Norwester wind. Three bodies have been recovered, with the search ongoing for the fourth victim. The incident occurred as the fishermen were carrying out their fishing activities in the lake.

The fishermen often use these makeshift platforms to fish in the giant Dumboor Lake, a popular fishing spot in the region. The collapse of the platform occurred late Saturday night during a Norwester wind and rainstorm, causing the four fishermen to fall into the deep waters of the lake. State disaster management personnel have recovered three bodies so far, with efforts ongoing to find the fourth victim.

National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) personnel have also joined the search operation to locate the missing fisherman. Senior district administration officials are on site, overseeing the situation in the area which is located 120 km south of Agartala. The bodies of the fishermen identified so far are Haridas Das, Jyotish Mallik, and Pradip Das, with one fisherman, identified as Sanjit Nandi, still missing.

Chief Minister Manik Saha expressed his condolences over the tragic incident, promising support for the families of the victims. The Dumboor Lake is significant as it is near Tripura’s only hydel power project and is the origin point of the state’s main river, Gomati. The incident serves as a reminder of the dangers that fishermen face in their line of work, especially during adverse weather conditions.
