The Shivraj government of Madhya Pradesh has approved the draft ‘Freedom of Religion Bill 2021‘ against Love Jihad. This draft was stamped in the cabinet meeting held on Saturday. Now this bill can be introduced in the House in the winter session of the Assembly. The ‘Freedom of Religion Bill 2021’ will become law after it is passed by the Legislative Assembly.

Madhya Pradesh Home Minister Dr. Narottam Mishra told in a press briefing after the cabinet meeting that there are a total of 19 provisions in the draft ‘Freedom of Religion Bill 2021’. According to him, the Love Jihad law going to be made in Madhya Pradesh will be more strict than the laws made in other states. In this, a provision of 10 years punishment has been given to the convict. Let us tell you that the Yogi government of Uttar Pradesh has implemented the law against Love Jihad through an ordinance.

Now the Shivraj government of Madhya Pradesh is also moving on the same path. The law enacted by the Yogi government of Uttar Pradesh through the Ordinance against Love Jihad provides for the registration of a case under non-bailable sections and a maximum punishment of 10 years. Rameshwar Sharma, the Protem Speaker of Madhya Pradesh Legislative Assembly, had also visited Uttar Pradesh to study this. The Uttar Pradesh government enacted a law against Love Jihad on November 24 through an ordinance.

According to the draft of the bill, a case will be filed against the guilty in non-bailable sections. The provision of punishment for a minimum of 10 years has been made in the Bill if proven guilty. Those who cooperate in cases like Love Jihad will also be made the main accused. Taking them as criminals will be punished just like the main accused. At the same time, there will be a provision for punishing those who convert for marriage. For voluntary conversion, one month before the Collector of the district concerned will have to apply.

  1. The District Magistrate will have to submit an application in writing to both the parties who are converting and marrying and getting the marriage done 1 month before the conversion and after marriage.
  2. There will be a provision of punishment of up to 5 years for the religious leaders, Qazi, Maulvi, or clergy who have converted without submitting the application. Senior police officers will investigate, the case will be heard in a session or special court.
  3. There will be a provision of 10 years punishment on forced conversions and marriages by threatening.
  4. The victim of forced conversion and marriage, his mother. Can be done by the father or family. This offense will be cognizable and non-bailable.
