Fugitive Pastor, Apollo Carreon Quiboloy wanted by FBI, Arrested in Philippines

Apollo Carreon Quiboloy, the man behind the Kingdom of Jesus Christ church with millions of followers, has been indicted by US and Filipino law enforcement agencies on abuse and human trafficking charges.

He was arrested after a long and bitter standoff with the group’s followers and police, which lasted two weeks and also led to the death of a church member due to a heart attack.

Quiboloy, along with four others, was brought to the national police headquarters in the capital, Manila, where they are currently detained.

Apollo Carreon Quiboloy, an influential Filipino pastor who called himself the “Appointed Son of God,” was arrested from his sprawling church compound.

The attempt to arrest him led to violent scuffles between riot police, who numbered two thousand, and the pastor’s supporters.

In 2021, the US Department of Justice (DOJ) indicted Quiboloy on serious charges that included sex trafficking of children, fraud, coercion, and bulk cash smuggling.

The US FBI stated that Apollo Carreon Quiboloy trafficked girls and women from the Philippines to the US, where they were utilized to solicit money for a bogus charity.

It is also rumoured that his female personal assistants, who are called “pastorals,” were forced to engage in sex with him.

Apollo Carreon Quiboloy enjoyed considerable political clout since he was very close to then-president Rodrigo Duterte and had also served as the spiritual advisor to the then-president. However, his luck ran out with the stepping down of Duterte in June 2022.

The Philippines’ Interior Minister Benhur Abalos has confirmed in posts on Facebook that the preacher, who had been on the run for three years, “has been caught.”

There are conflicting reports that arrested Quiboloy, a self-styled “appointed son of God” and founder of the Kingdom of Jesus Christ church (KOJC), along with four of his aides in the southern city of Davao, had surrendered after they were given a 24-hour deadline to come out from the church’s sprawling 30-hectare (75-acre) compound. The group surrendered four hours later, according to a report by the Philippine News Agency.

On the other hand, Interior Minister Benhur Abalos said on Monday that Quiboloy was found inside the compound’s Bible school and he did not surrender but was arrested after a police operation.
