Ganesh Chaturthi is a Hindu festival that celebrates the birth of Lord Ganesha, who is known for being the lord of wisdom and prosperity. Ganesh Chaturthi lasts for 10 days, and the festival starts on the 4th of the Hindu month Bhadrapada, which is usually between August and September.
To celebrate Ganesh Chaturthi, people bring home clay idols of Lord Ganesha and place them in designated spaces. Families and friends gather together and offer food, sweets, and water to Lord Ganesha.
During Ganesh Chaturthi, people also pray, sing hymns, and make offerings to Lord Ganesha. Ganesha is known for liking modak, and sweets are very famous for this event as well. The rituals are performed daily over 10 days.
The celebration ends on the day named Ananta Chaturdashi. On this day, people carry the idol of Lord Ganesha to the Ganges and immerse it underwater. People dance and sing songs while the immersion process happens.
