German Defence minister rules out sending troops to Ukraine

German Defence Minister Boris Pistorius has firmly stated that Germany will not be sending ground troops to Ukraine. This decision comes after French President Emmanuel Macron suggested the possibility of European nations sending troops to Ukraine. Pistorius made this clear during a press conference in Vienna after meeting with Austrian Defence Minister Klaudia Tanner.

During the press conference, Pistorius was quoted by Xinhua news agency report saying, “Boots on the ground is not an option for the Federal Republic of Germany.” Tanner also expressed concern and called Macron’s remarks “a worrying signal.”

Macron had mentioned at a meeting of European leaders that while there was no official consensus, the option of sending Western troops to Ukraine should not be dismissed. He emphasized that the West will take all necessary measures to ensure that Russia does not emerge victorious in the ongoing conflict.

The stance taken by Germany on not deploying ground troops to Ukraine aligns with their commitment to peacekeeping efforts through diplomatic means. The discussions among European nations regarding potential military involvement in Ukraine continue to evolve as the crisis unfolds.
