‘Dadi Ki Rasoi’ is an initiative run by Anup Khanna, a social worker in Noida, Uttar Pradesh. The initiative aims to provide food and clothes at a minimum rate to the poor in Delhi NCR. They give food at ₹5 And Clothes at ₹10 in the Delhi NCR region. The start-up is based in Noida, sector 29.
How was this Idea of ‘Dadi Ki Rasoi’ Developed?
Anup Khanna’s mother initially thought of this idea. One time having a meal with her family she thought why not start a restaurant that gives food at a very low price to needy and poor people?
If you don’t have enough money to afford quality food in a day then you can head to ‘Dadi Ki Rasoi’, good food starts at ₹5.
When did this initiative start?
It all started around 3 years back. During the initial stage, 15-20 people were used to feed through this start-up. All food is being prepared at home only. As the word got out, more and more people started associating with the venture.
With support and appreciation, people bought their own stoves, gas, and utensils. Gradually the scale of their food preparation increased as well as the number of people being fed. Now they get around 500 people per day.
Currently, the venture is serving food to 500 people which itself is a very big number to achieve.
Plus, the rise in inflation is already making it difficult for below-the-poverty-line families to earn their bread and butter.
Anup says, “we had to buy raw material for preparing food from our pocket at a loss. Then, a friend of mine suggested to me a wholesale shop that provided us with raw food for half price. We also arranged a vegetable vendor who provided us with vegetables at half price. In return, we provide him with food.”
