Gillespie steps down as head coach of South Australia’s Adelaide Strikers

Adelaide, March 28 (IANS) Jason Gillespie has announced his resignation as Head Coach of South Australia and Adelaide Strikers, ending his nine-year tenure with the South Australia Cricket Association (SACA) at the end of June. Gillespie led the Strikers to their maiden BBL Championship in season 7 and oversaw multiple finals campaigns.

Gillespie took charge of the Strikers before the BBL 2015-16 season and returned to South Australia full-time in 2020, guiding the Redbacks through a transition period. Despite a disappointing season for South Australia, the Strikers made the BBL playoffs but fell short in the finals.

In a statement, Gillespie expressed pride in his accomplishments with SACA and gratitude for the support received during his time with the Strikers and Redbacks. He looks forward to new opportunities in the sport and the next chapter of his career.

SACA President Will Rayner praised Gillespie’s significant contributions to South Australian cricket, noting his leadership on and off the field. Rayner acknowledged Gillespie as a legend of South Australian Cricket and wished him success in his future endeavors.
