GoFundMe Launched for Mackenzie Michalski, U.S. Nurse Killed in Budapest

Mackenzie Michalski, a 31-year-old nurse from Oregon, was on vacation in Budapest, Hungary, when she was tragically killed. According to Budapest Police, the American woman was killed by a 37-year-old Irish citizen, identified as LTM. The suspect confessed to the crime and also took the police to the place where he had hidden the nurse’s body.

Mackenzie Michalski originally hailed from Fredonia, New York, and was working as a nurse in Portland, Oregon. A GoFundMe campaign has been started to help the woman’s family raise money for her funeral.

According to media reports and details provided in the fundraiser, Mackenzie Michalski was staying at an Airbnb in Budapest and was last spotted around 10 p.m. on November 4. When her stay at the Airbnb ended, the owners of the lodge opened her room and found her belongings before informing the police.

The police report stated that an analysis of the CCTV footage revealed that Mackenzie Michalski met the man at a nightclub. Later, they returned to the man’s apartment, and police said that the pair became intimate before Michalski was killed. The suspect then placed the lifeless body of the nurse in a suitcase, drove to Lake Balaton, and disposed of the body.

When the suspect returned to Budapest, he was taken into custody, confessed to murdering the woman, and took the police to the spot where her body was hidden.

Lieutenant Colonel Sándor Gál of the Budapest police said to the media:

“He confessed to killing the woman, but claimed it was an accident. After his interrogation, the suspect also showed the detective where he had hidden the body, and after the body was found, a search was carried out.”

Lieutenant Colonel Sándor Gál added:

“During the search, we also intended to use a cadaver dog, but as the suspect showed us the body, the dog was not used. The suspect was taken into custody, and his arrest was initiated after the interrogation.”

The suspect claimed the killing was an “accident.”

Budapest Police also added that the suspect tried to cover up the scene by cleaning his apartment and later brought a suitcase in which he placed the body of the victim. Police also stated that the suspect made internet searches about how to dispose of bodies and hide the smell of decomposing corpses.

Meanwhile, the father of Mackenzie Michalski, Bill Michalski, is devastated after receiving the news of his daughter’s death and states that there is no reason for this to happen. During a vigil held for his daughter over the weekend, he stated that he is still overcome with emotions.
