Google receives notice from IAMAI regarding delisting apps from 4 Indian firms

The Internet and Mobile Association of India (IAMAI) has urged Google not to remove apps from Play Store belonging to Indian companies, as at least four firms have been notified by Google. IAMAI stated that these companies believe a substantive hearing is pending before the Supreme Court, and Google should not take any action during this period.

Google disclosed that several companies have chosen not to pay for their services on Google Play, leading to potential delisting. IAMAI confirmed that four of its members have received notices from Google. The industry body stressed the importance of a fair hearing before any action is taken.

In response, Google emphasized the need for consistent policy enforcement across its ecosystem, including in India. The company mentioned that non-compliant apps may face removal from Google Play as part of policy enforcement measures. The situation underscores the challenges faced by app developers in adhering to platform policies while navigating legal proceedings.

As the issue unfolds, the stance of both IAMAI and Google will play a crucial role in determining the future course of action for Indian app developers. The outcome of the Supreme Court hearing and Google’s response to the situation will shape the dynamics of the app ecosystem in India. Stay tuned for further updates on this developing story.
