Google reinstates Shaadi.com, Naukri, and other apps on Play Store following backlash
Google Faces Backlash for Delisting Indian Apps
New Delhi, March 2 (IANS) – Facing intense criticism, Google has started to reinstate some of the apps of Indian digital companies it recently removed from the Play Store. Sources confirm that apps like Shaadi.com, Info Edge’s Naukri, 99acres, and Naukri Gulf have been reinstated.
Info Edge co-founder Sanjeev Bikchandani expressed his relief, stating, “Many of the Info Edge apps are back on the Play Store. An effort very well led by Hitesh (Hitesh Oberoi) and the entire Info Edge team. People were up all night for this. Great crisis management.”
The Internet and Mobile Association of India (IAMAI) criticized Google’s decision to delist apps from Indian companies and demanded that they be reinstated on the Play Store.
Google allegedly removed more than a dozen apps from major Indian digital companies like Matrimony and Shaadi.com. This action was a result of Google’s enforcement of its payment policy after 10 developers failed to comply.
Apps from Altt, Stage, Aha streaming platforms, Truly Madly, Quack Quack dating apps, Kuku FM audio content platform, and FRND social networking app were also delisted by Google, causing uproar among Indian digital companies.
