Gopi wins New Delhi Marathon in a thrilling finish; Ashwini Jadhav clinches women’s gold (ld)
Gopi Thonakal emerged victorious in the New Delhi Marathon, narrowly beating his teammate Srinu Bugatha in a thrilling finish. Gopi finished in 2:14:40, just shy of his personal best, setting a fast pace for Bugatha to achieve his own best time. The race was one of the fastest in recent times in the Elite Male category, with Akshay Saini taking the bronze medal.
In the Elite Women category, Ashwini Jadhav claimed the gold medal by shaving off four minutes from her personal best time, finishing in an impressive 2:52:25. Nirmaben Thakor and Divyanka Chaudhary took the silver and bronze medals respectively. The competition was fierce in both categories as runners aimed for a spot in the Paris Olympics.
NEB Sports’ Nagraj Adiga, the Race Director, praised the competitiveness of the marathon, acknowledging the efforts of all participants. Apollo Tyres Ltd’s Satish Sharma expressed gratitude to the city of Delhi for the overwhelming support, with over 19,000 participants making the event a success.
Umesh clinched the gold in the popular 10K race, clocking in at 32:02. Rozi was the standout winner among the women, with Riya Pandey and Deepali Malhotra taking the silver and bronze medals respectively. The event showcased exceptional talent and determination among all participants, pushing the boundaries of their abilities.
