Government is now talking of forming a committee to consider the demands of farmers

It has been forty days since the farmers staged a protest demanding the withdrawal of new agricultural laws. More than forty farmers have died. Annoyed by the dogmatic attitude of the government, some farmers took suicidal steps like suicide.

It is clear from these incidents that if the government does not find a suitable solution soon, the situation will worsen in the coming days. Farmer’s organizations stand on their stand that the protest will not end until the government withdraws the agricultural laws. The government has also made it clear that there will be no withdrawal of agricultural laws.

Obviously, when both sides have made it a question of their prestige and no one is willing to bow down, the deadlock will only increase rather than end. This stalemate is giving rise to a crisis which in no way can be called good for a democratic country like India.

After the sixth round of talks, the government claimed that two demands of the farmers have been agreed and the rest will be agreed soon. But there does not seem to be any concrete initiative towards resolving the real issues on which farmers are agitated to legalize the Minimum Support Price (MSP) and withdraw the agricultural laws.

The government has been repeatedly giving assurance to the farmers that the MSP will not be abolished under any circumstances and for this it is also ready to give it in writing. This is the big point of the collision. If the government is not abolishing the MSP, then what is difficult to give it a legal form is beyond comprehension.

Due to this, the fear has arisen in the minds of the farmers that what is the legal constraint or compulsion that the government is ready to give in writing about maintaining the MSP, but is not ready to give it a legal form. In such a situation, it becomes the responsibility of the government to put its compulsion before the farmers on the complexity of the MSP and satisfy them.

With the preparation with which the farmers from all over the country have camped on the borders of Delhi, it is not likely that the farmers will return empty-handed. In the last two days of rain, the tents of the farmers were filled to the water, from food and drink to bed.

There is no doubt that the harsh winter is increasing the hardships of the farmers, but at the same time the agitation and the spirit of the agitation are also encouraging. The farmers have also announced their next strategy and are preparing to carry out a tractor march on Republic Day in Delhi. It seems that the government is also assuming that the farmers will start returning tired after one day.

The government is now talking of forming a committee to consider the demands of the farmers. While such efforts may have occurred even before the movement. The persistence of the agitators is proof that there is something in the new agricultural laws that the farmers feel against their interests and which the government is hiding. In such a situation, there is little hope that any path will be found in the January 8 talks.
