The Ministry of Coal recently hosted a roadshow in Mumbai to promote coal gasification projects aligned with India’s vision for a cleaner and energy-efficient future. The event received an encouraging response from investors, industry experts, and other stakeholders, reaffirming the government’s commitment to fostering innovation and sustainability in the coal sector.
During the event, M. Nagaraju, Additional Secretary, Ministry of Coal, highlighted the government’s unwavering support towards coal gasification, including the implementation of financial assistance schemes, offering coal linkages, and land for setting up projects. He emphasized the importance of investing in the technology for a greener and cleaner future.
Nagaraju also stressed the significance of coal gasification in India’s energy security, identifying diversified use of coal to achieve import substitution and become a more self-reliant nation. He further noted that this initiative will help in the socio-economic development of coal-bearing regions.
Mukesh Agrawal, Director (Finance), Coal India Limited, provided insights into the importance of coal gasification and the government’s efforts towards achieving ‘Atmanirbhar Bharat’ in this field. Shubham Goel, Vice President, SBI Capital Markets Ltd., the Project Management Agency to the Scheme, also presented key contours of the scheme for promoting coal/lignite gasification projects.
