Gujarat Giants outshine Mumbai Indians with superb death overs bowling in IPL 2024, win by six runs

In a thrilling encounter at the Narendra Modi Stadium, Gujarat Giants secured a six-run victory against Mumbai Indians in the IPL 2024. Despite Rohit Sharma’s (43) and Dewald Brevis’ (46) fine innings, Mumbai Indians lost control in the death overs against Spencer Johnson and Umesh Yadav.

After a stellar performance by Jasprit Bumrah (3-14) and David Coetzee (2-27) restricted Gujarat Titans to 168/6, Rohit and Brevis led Mumbai Indians to 107 when Rohit fell for 43 and Brevis got out for 46. Mumbai needed 40 runs in 25 balls but couldn’t seal the victory, continuing their first-match jinx since 2012.

With around 80,000 spectators in attendance, Mumbai Indians lost momentum in the final overs as Johnson and Yadav claimed crucial wickets, restricting them to 162/9 in 20 overs. Despite Hardik Pandya’s efforts late in the innings, Mumbai Indians fell short by six runs.

Chasing 169, Mumbai Indians lost Ishan Kishan early but Rohit Sharma’s measured innings kept them in the hunt. However, both Rohit and Brevis fell at crucial junctures which led to Mumbai Indians collapsing to defeat in a nail-biting encounter.
