Renowned writer and lyricist Sampooran Singh Kalra, popularly known as Gulzar, has been awarded the 58th Jnanpith Award-2023 along with Jagadguru Rambhadracharya, Sanskrit scholar and spiritual leader. At the age of 89, Gulzar adds this prestigious award to his already impressive collection of accolades, including an Oscar Award, a Grammy Award, five National Awards, the Dadasaheb Phalke Award, and many more. Born in Pakistan, Gulzar moved to Mumbai at a young age to support his family and pursue his passion for literature. He found inspiration in the Progressive Writers Association, where he met influential figures in the film industry. From a car dent painter to a prolific writer, Gulzar has left an indelible mark on Indian cinema.

Gulzar, known for his lyrical masterpieces, rose to fame with his first song “Mora Gora Ang Lay Le” for the film “Bandini” in 1963.
