Gunmen storm into Gwadar Port complex in Pakistan, firing shots

Gunmen reportedly affiliated with the Baloch Liberation Army (BLA) attempted to take over the Gwadar Port Authority Complex in a brazen attack. The assailants opened fire and triggered explosions, sparking a heavy exchange of gunfire with security forces.

Commissioner of Makran Saeed Ahmed Umrani confirmed that security forces successfully blocked the seven attackers from entering the complex in a prompt response. While the attackers were neutralized, authorities are assessing the extent of injuries sustained during the incident.

The Majeed Brigade of the BLA claimed responsibility for the attack, adding to the increasing wave of terror activities in Pakistan, particularly in the KP and Balochistan regions. Pakistan’s security forces have been intensifying Intelligence Based Operations to combat terror groups like the BLA and Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan.

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has vowed a robust response to such attacks, denouncing external facilitation of terrorism. February 2024 saw a surge in militant attacks in Pakistan, with at least 97 incidents resulting in 87 fatalities and 118 injuries, highlighting the ongoing security challenges faced by the country.
