Hamas declares death of Israeli captive as a result of ‘shortages of medicine and food’
The armed wing of Hamas, Al-Qassam Brigades, announced the death of the first Israeli hostage, Yigev Bukhatab, due to shortages of medicine and food in Gaza. The victim’s body was shown in a video clip, with no immediate comment from Israel.
Hamas kidnapped more than 250 people from Israel in a surprise attack in October 2023, leading to a large-scale retaliatory attack by Israel that has resulted in over 32,000 deaths in Gaza. The conflict has also worsened shortages of essentials like food, water, medicine, and electricity in the region.
The tragic death of Yigev Bukhatab highlights the dire situation faced by hostages in Gaza, echoing the hardships experienced by Palestinians in the enclave. With no immediate response from Israel, the escalating conflict continues to take a toll on both sides, with no end in sight.
