Hanukkah 2024 Wishes For Grandchildren, Images, Messages, Quotes, Greetings, Cliparts, Sayings and Captions
The Jewish Festival of Lights, Hanukkah, starts on Wednesday, December 25, 2024, at sundown and runs through sundown on Thursday, January 2, 2025. The holiday lasts eight nights and commemorates the rededication of the Second Temple in Jerusalem after a Jewish victory over the Syrian-Greeks in 165 BCE.
The festival commemorates the miracle that occurred during a time when, having recaptured the Temple, the Jews only had enough oil for one night of lighting in the menorah. Miraculously, the oil lasted eight days, giving them enough time to prepare new, sanctified oil. In the observance of this miracle, a nine-branched menorah is lit. Each night, one more candle is added. The candle used as the source for lighting the other candles is called the shamash.
Fun traditions of Hanukkah include playing the dreidel game, delicious food, such as latkes, or potato pancakes, and giving gifts, especially to children. There are many Jewish communities worldwide, including those in India, which celebrate Hanukkah with special foods like Malida, a dish prepared with flattened rice.
Hanukkah is celebrated as a national holiday in Israel with public menorah lightings, performances, and relay races carrying burning torches from Modi’in to Jerusalem. The festival is meant for family gatherings, prayers, songs, and reflections on the themes of faith, perseverance, and the fight for religious freedom.
Celebrate Hanukkah 2024 with heartfelt wishes, quotes, messages, images, and captions for your grandchildren.
