The festival of Baisakhi is highly important in the history of Sikhism. On 13 April 1699, the tenth Guru of the Sikhs, Guru Gobind Singh, established the Khalsa Panth. This day is a symbol of spiritual awakening, sacrifice, and courage for the Sikh community.
Guru Gobind Singh called a huge gathering at Anandpur Sahib on this day and expressed his desire to give a test of sacrifice to his followers. On his call, five people dedicated themselves, who later came to be known as “Panch Pyare”. This was the same historic day when the Khalsa Panth of Sikhs was born, which was dedicated not only to protect the religion but also to promote equality and justice in the society.
Special Kirtans and Ardas are organized in the Gurudwaras from the morning. According to Hindu beliefs, bathing in the Ganges river on the day of Baisakhi brings special virtue. This day not only reminds us of our history and traditions but also inspires us to adopt the values of love, brotherhood and equality.
