People visit temples of Lakshmi, the goddess of prosperity and wealth, and Ganesha, the god of auspicious beginnings.
Many prayers are offered on this day as people believe that it will give them peace, good health, long life and then a stable life. Fairs are also held in many places in Bengal on this day. Many types of auspicious work like taking a new house, marriage, mundan, are considered good to do on this day.
