Amitabh Bachchan to Hindi poet Harivansh Rai Bachchan and his wife, the social activist Teji Bachchan in  Allahabad on 19th October 1942. He studied at  Sherwood College, Nainital, and Kirori Mal College, University of Delhi. 

He started his career in film as a voice narrator in Mrinal Sen’s film Bhuvan Shome in 1969. He became a household name in 1970 with films like Zanjeer, Deewaar and Sholay. Due to his angry man roles, he coined the term India’s “angry young man” for his on-screen roles in Hindi films.

As of 2022, he has done over 200 films with his career spanning 5 decades. During his career, he has won many awards four National Film Awards as Best Actor, Dadasaheb Phalke Award a lifetime achievement award and various awards at international film festivals and award ceremonies. Nationally, he has won sixteen Filmfare Awards with 42 nominations. Besides acting, Amitabh Bachchan has also worked as a film producer, playback singer and TV host. He is known for hosting one of the most popular reality shows on Indian TV Kaun Banega Crorepati, India’s version of the game show franchise, Who Wants to Be a Millionaire? In 1980, he entered politics and started working as a social activist.
