This prompted him to give up his royal lifestyle and embark on a spiritual quest for knowledge. After years of meditation, he reached nirvana beneath a Bodhi tree. When Siddhartha was 29 years old, he observed an elderly man, a dead body, and a sick man outside the palace and came to the conclusion that life is a struggle. He gave up his life as a prince in order to meditate and seek wisdom. He earned the name Gautam Buddha. Globally, people observe Buddha Jayanti, which is also a national holiday in numerous countries.
