Hartalika Teej marks the worship of the great god, Lord Mahadev, and his life partner, Mata Parvati. Devotees all over the country worship Mahadev and Parvati with utmost devotion for their husband’s long life span.

On this auspicious and sacred day, women maintain a fast in support of a healthy marriage and marital pleasure. They dress in jewelry and turquoise sarees. They sing and dance about Teej while swinging. The daughters and their in-laws would receive a pail of goodies in the form of special presents called “Sindhara.”
