Kali Chaudas popularly known as Choti Diwali or Naraka Chaturdashi is celebrated a day after Dhanteras. This year i.e. 2023 will be observed on 11th November. Goddess Kali is worshipped on this day. According to Drikpanchag, Kali Chaudas will commence at 1:57 pm on November 11 and end at 2:44 pm on November 12.

As per Hindu beliefs, Narakasura, the Demon King was defeated and killed by Lord Krishna which is why it is celebrated to mark the victory of good over evil. Hence the festival is also called Naraka Chaturdashi.

Story 

According to Hindu rituals and manuscripts, Narakasura attacked Devaloka after gaining control of all the kingdoms of the planet. This made Lord Krishna and his consort Satyabhama angry. But the only thing that can kill Narakasura is Mother Earth i.e Bhumi Dev.

During the battle, Lord Krishna killed all the demons. Unfortunately, Narakasur knocked him out, leaving him unconscious Seeing her husband like this, Satyabhama kills Narakasur with an arrow that kills him. Later Lord Krishna reveals she is the incarnation of Mother Earth and that it is destined that she will kill the demon Lord Narakasur.
