Mahavir Jayanti is celebrated every year to commemorate the birth and life of Lord Mahavira, the founder of one of the world’s oldest religions, Jainism. Lord Mahavira was the 24th and last Tirthankara of Jainism. The whole country celebrates the birth anniversary of Lord Mahavir with great pomp. This festival is always celebrated in March or April. This year this festival will be celebrated on Thursday, April 14, 2022. On this day people remember the teachings of Mahavira.
Lord Mahavira was born to King Siddhartha and Queen Trishala in Kshatriya Kundalpur of the Vaishali Republic, about two and a half thousand years ago. The childhood name of Lord Mahavir was Vardhaman. Mahavira is also known as Veer, Antivir, and Consent. There is also a lot of difference in the context of his marriage, some people believe that he was unmarried, while some people believe that he was married to Yashoda and also had a daughter, whose name was Priyadarshana. He left home at the age of 30 and got absorbed in penance for 12 and a half years. His body attained nirvana at the age of 72. After his death, his body was cremated in Pavapuri, which is now famous as the big Jain temple, Jalmandir.
Lord Mahavir tried to remove all the evils spread in the Indian society. He showed his followers the path of salvation through doing penance and not committing atrocities. His teachings help humans to persevere in the face of day-to-day challenges and lead a peaceful life by following the principles of non-violence and truth.
