In Hinduism, Tritiya Tithi of Shukla Paksha of Vaishakh month is said to have special significance, because on this day, Akshaya Tritiya, as well as Parshuram Jayanti, is also celebrated. This year Parshuram Jayanti is being celebrated on 14 May (Friday). According to mythological beliefs, Lord Vishnu took the sixth incarnation as Parshuram during the Pradosh period on this holy date. Parshuram, the supreme devotee of Lord Shiva, is called the God of Justice, because he had made the earth devoid of Kshatriya not once or twice, but 21 times. It is said that King Sahastrajun of the Haihaya dynasty was persecuting Brahmins and Rishis due to his force and pride. Sahastrajun once reached the ashram of Lord Parshuram’s father Jamadagni Muni with his army. The hunger of all the soldiers was relieved by the milk of the miraculous Kamadhenu cow of Muni’s ashram. Impressed by the miracle of the cow, his Kamadhenu cow was snatched from Jamadagni Muni.
