The Raja Parva or Raja Parba festival was celebrated with gaiety in Odisha. It is a unique three-day festival that marks the onset of monsoon and special worship of Bhu Devi i.e. Mother Earth. It is believed that during this time Mother Earth i.e. Bhu Devi undergoes menstruation. Religious belief is that the day when the Sun enters Gemini from Taurus, the rainy season begins. On this occasion, Raj Parv is celebrated with great pomp in Odisha. This time the festival of Raja Parba will be celebrated on Wednesday, June 15, 2022. Odia people use a lot of fruits while celebrating this festival like Podapitha, do not walk barefoot, take a bath every day and happily climb on ropes hanging on trees.
According to shethepeople, The festival of Raja Parba starts a day before Mithuna Sankranti and continues for 2 days after which the Odia people celebrate this festival according to their customs. It is believed that in the first three days Mother Earth undergoes menstruation. The fourth day is called Vasumati Snan or the ceremonial bath of Bhudevi. On this day people celebrate the first rain of the year and welcome it. Mother Earth is worshiped for good rains and agriculture during these four days.
The house is cleaned for this festival. Swings are installed in the gardens. Women observe a fast for the first three days. There is no pruning and digging of the land these days. Songs and music programs are organized on this occasion. The festival of Raja Parba is dedicated to womanhood and also honors her ability to give birth to children. Menstruation is considered a sign of fertility.
