Haryana launches 'Savera' programme for early screening, detection of breast cancer

Haryana Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar launched the ‘Savera’ program for early detection of breast cancer in Gurugram. The initiative focuses on utilizing visually impaired women for breast cancer screening. The program will expand to other districts after successful implementation in Gurugram.

The ‘Savera’ program will be implemented in Gurugram’s Civil Hospital of Sector-10, Polyclinic of Sector-31, and Primary Community Center of Wazirabad village. Breast cancer is often diagnosed late, affecting different parts of the body. The program aims to detect the disease in its early stages, particularly in urban women.

Manohar Lal Khattar highlighted the unique qualities of visually impaired women, like heightened sense of touch, which will be utilized for effective breast cancer screening in the ‘Savera’ program. The initiative is a collaboration between the Medanta Foundation and the Health Department in Gurugram, aiming to empower patients to take charge of their health.

“The ‘Tactile Breast Examination’ system was introduced in India six years ago to train visually impaired women in breast diseases and examination. This training has equipped them to conduct clinical internships under expert guidance at Medanta Gurugram,” said Pankaj Sahni, Group CEO & Director of Medanta. The program reflects Medanta’s commitment to innovation and patient empowerment in healthcare.
