Haryana names public figures as district icons to attract voters
In a unique initiative to boost voter participation in the upcoming Lok Sabha polls in Haryana, popular sportspersons have been designated as district icons. Chief Electoral Officer Anurag Agarwal announced this move on Friday, aiming to increase the voter turnout to 75 percent.
Icons include gold medalist Palak and bronze medalist Adarsh Singh, among others, who will represent different districts. The goal is to engage and motivate people to exercise their voting rights.
Acting on the lines of the Election Commission designating actor Rajkummar Rao as a national icon, this initiative highlights the importance of public figures in driving electoral awareness. Deputy Commissioners have been instructed to appoint icons in their respective districts.
With the likes of Olympic hockey player Surender Kumar and World Championship silver medalist Sonam Malik among the designated icons, the initiative aims to inspire and educate citizens about the significance of participating in the electoral process. The move is expected to encourage higher voter turnout and civic engagement.
The district icons, representing various disciplines and achievements, serve as role models to encourage citizens to exercise their right to vote. Their involvement is crucial in promoting awareness and educating the public about the importance of participating in the democratic process.
