Having more than one coach would benefit the Jharkhand team, says Sangita Kumari

In highlighting the remarkable strides of hockey development in Jharkhand, emerging Indian women’s team forward Sangita Kumari advocates for an enhancement in the state’s hockey infrastructure. She suggests that having multiple coaches and physiotherapists would elevate the team’s performance to greater heights.

Sangita, a fast-rising forward from the village of Karangaguri in Jharkhand, emphasizes the need for more coaches and physiotherapists in the state team. She believes that with these enhancements, more talented hockey players can emerge from Jharkhand. Sangita also acknowledges the government’s support in organizing matches and hopes for sustained backing in the future.

The 22-year-old forward also highlights the importance of establishing additional excellence centers in Jharkhand. She believes that these initiatives would greatly benefit senior players and further enhance the landscape of hockey in the state. Sangita recently participated in the senior women’s national championships, where her team reached the semifinals before losing to eventual-winner Haryana.

During the national tournament, Sangita mentions that budding players had the opportunity to learn from experienced Indian international players. She asserts that playing against or alongside senior players helped juniors improve their attacking hockey skills and various other abilities. Since her senior debut, Sangita has scored 23 goals in 51 international matches, solidifying her place in the Indian women’s team alongside promising attackers like Vandana Katariya, Navneet Kaur, and Salima Tete.
