Health minister: Modern science can enhance holistic healthcare innovations, says Ayush

New Delhi, March 4 (IANS) Union Minister of Health and Family Welfare, Mansukh Mandaviya, emphasized the importance of integrating Ayush with modern science for holistic healthcare innovations in India. The Ayush-ICMR Advanced Centre for Integrated Health Research (AI-ACIHR) was launched at AIIMS in the national capital to focus on research in various health domains.

The AI-ACIHR will be established at AIIMS Delhi, Nagpur, Jodhpur, and Rishikesh, with a research focus on gastro-intestinal disorders, women and child health, geriatric health, and cancer care. Mandaviya highlighted the significance of collaborative research in Ayush, bridging traditional knowledge with modern scientific research for a synergistic approach to healthcare.

The minister stressed that Ayurveda is an integral part of India’s culture and tradition, which is still widely practiced. The strategic collaboration aims to advance Integrative Health Research by integrating traditional Ayush practices with modern medical science, positioning India at the forefront of holistic healthcare innovations. Mandaviya also launched a clinical trial on anaemia to be conducted at eight different sites across the country.

In line with the government’s integrative approach towards healthcare, Mandaviya unveiled the Indian Public Health Standards (IPHS) for Ayush healthcare facilities. The IPHS sets uniform standards to enhance the quality of healthcare delivery and aims to improve Ayush medical services for all healthcare needs. The reforms are expected to enable States/UTs to develop Ayush healthcare services with standardized quality infrastructure.
