Hemochandra Singh, former Manipur minister, resigns from Congress

Former Manipur Minister and Speaker, Irengbam Hemochandra Singh, delivered a major blow to the Congress party by resigning amidst the election campaign. Hemochandra Singh, a five-time MLA from Singjamei, cited his “complete lack of faith and confidence” in the party as the reason for his exit.

In his resignation letter to state Congress President Keisham Meghachandra Singh, Hemochandra Singh expressed his disappointment, stating, “I took this decision with a heavy heart. Congress has no relevance in Manipur.” He further criticized the party, labeling it as “rudderless and a sinking ship.”

According to Hemochandra Singh, the lack of recognition for talent and sincerity by Congress leaders in the state was a key factor in his decision to leave the party. His departure comes at a crucial time as Manipur’s Lok Sabha seats, Inner Manipur and Outer Manipur (ST), are set to go to polls on April 19 and 26.

The resignation of Irengbam Hemochandra Singh has stirred up political dynamics in Manipur, creating uncertainty for the Congress party ahead of the upcoming elections. This development highlights the challenges faced by the party in retaining prominent leaders and maintaining support in the region.
