The formation of Himachal Pradesh is the result of a long and interesting process. After independence, on 15 April 1948, Himachal Pradesh was made the Chief Commissioner’s Province by combining about 30 princely states. Later, 25 January 1971 was the historic day when the then Prime Minister of the country, Indira Gandhi, announced to make Himachal Pradesh a full state.
