Hindu Teacher Acquitted in Pakistan Blasphemy Case After Five-Year Legal Battle

A Hindu teacher in Pakistan was acquitted of blasphemy charges in Sindh. The court ruled that the prosecution failed to establish a case against him, leading to his immediate release if not wanted in any other case. Concerns over his security have been raised by relatives and community members.

The teacher, falsely accused in 2019 and incarcerated for nearly five years, was finally acquitted. Sukh Dev Hemnani of the Sindh Human Rights Commission stated, “We are trying to arrange security for him and his family,” expressing concerns over potential harm to the teacher due to ‘misinformation’ regarding the case.

The court’s judgement highlighted the failure of the prosecution to prove the case beyond a reasonable doubt, resulting in the teacher’s acquittal. Despite the verdict being in the teacher’s favor, worries persist about his safety, prompting efforts to secure his protection in light of potential threats to his life.
