Hockey India Launches National Women’s Hockey League for 2024–25 Season
New Delhi, April 9 (IANS) – Hockey India introduced the National Women’s Hockey League 2024–25, the first domestic league for women in India. The league will kick off in Ranchi, Jharkhand, from April 30 to May 9. Matches will be held at the Marang Gomke Jaipal Singh Astroturf Hockey Stadium.
The National Women’s Hockey League aims to showcase talent, elevate women’s hockey in India, and provide a platform for emerging athletes. The top eight state teams from the 14th Hockey India Senior Women’s National Championships will compete, including Hockey Haryana, Hockey Maharashtra, Hockey Jharkhand, and others.
Players under 21 will also have the opportunity to participate, highlighting Hockey India’s focus on nurturing young talent. The league not only aims to raise the standard of women’s hockey but also inspire the next generation of athletes and promote gender equality in sports.
Hockey India President Dr. Dilip Tirkey expressed his excitement, stating, “The National Women’s Hockey League is a pivotal moment for Indian hockey, especially for our women athletes. It signifies our dedication to women’s sports and will boost the growth of women’s hockey in the country.” Secretary General Bhola Nath Singh added, “This league is a significant step forward in promoting women’s hockey and will inspire young girls to pursue their passion for the sport.”
